South Sudan 2024 Election calendar ready, NEC
The national electoral body has hinted that the calendar for the conduct of 2024 general election has been prepared and ready to be released soon paving the way for the election activities to kickstart.
However, according to the National Election Commission’s Spokesperson, George Lemi, they are yet to hold a meeting to iron out key issues before announcing the calendar to the public.
We have already prepared the election calendar and it will be released to the public. When the elections calendar is released, we will declare when the civic education and voter registration will commence, said George on Tuesday as reported by Eye Radio.
He said the commission has tabled its elections budget including proposed activities to the Revitalized Government of National Unity waiting approval.
We have submitted the elections budget to the government as well as the elections activities, George stated.
A head of the election, three political parties have confirmed and declared their interests in participating in the poll. Among them are, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) being led by President Salva Kiir, South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), under First Vice President, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol Agany, and Other Political Parties (OPP).
However, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO), as the main opposition party to challenge SPLM the ruling party in the coming elections has objected to the decision of conducting elections before fully implementing the September, 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
